This volume concerns itself with the phenomenon of self-conscious reflection on the past by characters within a range of Greek and Roman historical narratives, whose authors themselves may self-consciously reflect on the past. This is termed by the editors and contributors 'the plupast'. Such references to the past embedded in historical narratives have not until now received the same systematic attention as references to the stage and poetry in plays (metatheatre) and poems (metapoetics). Some cases of the plupast have already been discussed under the headings of intertextuality and exemplarity; but these theoretical frameworks are not sufficient to elucidate fully the temporal complexity of ancient historical narratives. In this volume, the contributors explore the various forms of embedded images of the past and show in what way the concept of the plupast, while drawing on established approaches, opens a novel perspective on ancient historiography.

Beginning with the publication of The Chocolate War in 1974, and continuing throughout the entirety of his career, Robert Cormier dared to disturb the universe. The moment Jerry Renault refused to sell his first chocolate bar Robert Cormier began a life-long career that would push the boundaries of traditional young adult literature. He would go on to prove again and again that a YA novel could be both realistic and unflinchingly honest. And that fiction for teens could be great literature. In this book YA librarian and Cormier biographer Patty Campbell explores each of Cormier's books for young readers. From the boundary breaking modern classic The Chocolate War and the award-winning I Am the Cheese, to the tender Frenchtown Summer and the shocking and disturbing Tenderness, Campbell's literary analysis illuminates why Robert Cormier has been called the single most important writer in young adult literature. And how his work has touched generations of young readers' hearts and minds, daring them again and again to disturb their own universe. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Over the past two decades, the art world has broadened its geographic reach and opened itself to new continents, allowing for a significant crosspollination of post-conceptual strategies and vernacular modes. Printed materials, both in innovative and traditional forms, have played a key role in this exchange of ideas and sources. This catalogue, published in conjunction with an exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, examines the evolution of artistic practices related to prints, from the resurgence of ancient printmaking techniques often used alongside digital technologies to the worldwide proliferation of self-published artists books and ephemera. Print/Out features focused sections on ten artists and publishers, including Ai Weiwei, Ellen Gallagher, Martin Kippenberger, Lucy McKenzie, Museum in Progress, Superflex and Rirkrit Tiravanija, as well as rich illustrations of additional printed projects from the last twenty years by major artists such as Trisha Donnelly, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Thomas Schutte, and Kelley Walker. An introductory essay by Christophe Cherix, Chief Curator of Prints and Illustrated Books at MoMA, offers an overview of this period with particular attention to new directions and strategies within an expanded field of printmaking.
