This lecture introduces systematically into the problem of managing large data collections in peer-to-peer systems. Search over large datasets has always been a key problem in peer-to-peer systems and the peer-to-peer paradigm has incited novel directions in the field of data management. This resulted in many novel peer-to-peer data management concepts and algorithms, for supporting data management tasks in a wider sense, including data integration, document management and text retrieval. The lecture covers four different types of peer-to-peer data management systems that are characterized by the type of data they manage and the search capabilities they support. The first type are structured peer-to-peer data management systems which support structured query capabilities for standard data models. The second type are peer-to-peer data integration systems for querying of heterogeneous databases without requiring a common global schema. The third type are peer-to-peer document retrieval systems that enable document search based both on the textual content and the document structure. Finally, we introduce semantic overlay networks, which support similarity search on information represented in hierarchically organized and multi-dimensional semantic spaces. Topics that go beyond data representation and search are summarized at the end of the lecture.Table of Contents: Introduction / Structured Peer-to-Peer Databases / Peer-to-peer Data Integration / Peer-to-peer Retrieval / Semantic Overlay Networks / Conclusion

Children have a right to participate in decisions that affect them, and their participation can have positive effects such as increased self-esteem and confidence, as well as improving decisions made by professionals working with them. The right children have to be heard is high on the public agenda, but there are still debates over how and when they can be involved, what form their participation should take and organisational cultures that facilitate this. Children and Participation addresses these questions and the nature of children's participation in the social care field. The author discusses the reality of the world in which children live and outlines definitions of participation and current initiatives for children's involvement. Four research studies on children's participation in the UK are then presented, based on interviews with children aged 6--19. They cover children's views on decision-making and recording processes, their opinions on the social work help they have received, whether they feel their views have been taken into account, and the responses of the agencies involved.

On the heels of Arland Hultgren?'s successful commentary comes a new volume exploring one of the most significant theological documents ever written. In this commentary Arland Hultgren engages the text of Paul?'s Letter to the Romans using careful theological exegesis in conversation with scores of contemporary biblical scholars.Hultgren walks readers through the letter verse-by-verse, illuminating the text with helpful comments, probing into major puzzles, and highlighting the epistle?'s most inspiring features. He also demonstrates the essentially forward-looking, missional character of Paul?'s letter written, as Hultgren suggests, to introduce Paul-the-theologian to Roman believers and inspire their support for his planned missionary efforts in the Western Mediterranean. This thoughtful commentary, ideal for pastors and serious students of the Bible, includes seven appendices that discuss in detail such hot button issues as Romans 1:26-27 and Homosexuality and Pistis Christou: Faith in or of Christ

Learn through application with COMMUNITY PSYCHOLOGY! Featuring concrete examples and numerous study tools, this psychology text helps you understand the concepts and then provides opportunities for you to apply them. Brief outlines of chapter content, anticipatory questions, key points, brief exercises, summaries, and self tests are just a few of the tools that will help you succeed in this course. Programs and citizen initiatives for enriching the quality of individual and community life--such as Alcoholics Anonymous and the San Francisco Depression Prevention Project--show you what community psychology means in the real world. At the end of each chapter, you will find website references to model or recommended projects that connect you to community resources.

This mainstream book is characterized by its superior scholarship, accessible writing style, unmatched coverage of diversity, and unparalleled, integrated technology resources. Treating diversity as central to the rich fabric of our society, the authors include research and data that illustrate how class, race-ethnicity, gender, age, geographic residence, and sexual orientation relate to the topics covered. Speaking to students in a friendly and inviting way, the authors encourage them to think globally, question commonly held beliefs, assess different perspectives used by sociologists, and to use this process to understand the forces that generate change and continuity in our society.

This study analyzes the history of puppet, mask, and performing object theater in the United States over the past 150 years to understand how a peculiarly American mixture of global cultures, commercial theater, modern-art idealism and mechanical innovation created uniquely modern and singularly American approaches which have reinvented the ancient arts of puppetry as essential performance modes of the twenty-first century.

The Internet community has recently become interested in distributed query processing. Not surprisingly, they approach this problem from a very different angle than the traditional database literature. The fundamental goal of Internet systems is to operate at very large scale (thousands if not millions of nodes). To achieve this degrees of scale, these system sacrifice transparency and/or flexibility.

The power consumed by digital integrated circuits has grown with increasing transistor density and system complexity. One of the particularly power-hungry design features is the generation, distribution, and utilization of one or more synchronization signals (clocks). In many state-of-the-art designs, up to 30%-50% of the total power is dissipated in the clock distribution network.
